Military training camps as well as overseas (in Europe) during the first World War. An extremely limited amount of this equipment survives today and, as a result, both baseballs and baseball bats bearing the "War Department" stamp are highly prized by collectors. The condition of the baseball is very good.
Although there are several areas of mild discoloration, the ball has a maintained an off-white, largely untoned appearance. The type and style of the laces as well as the texture and patina of the the baseball are correct for the 1917-18 time period. For the most part, the printing remains dark and vivid.
Phenomenal overall condition given the scarcity of the ball. Sweet spot of 1917-18 baseball. Composite picture of all panels.
